Irrigation

Solid Set Irrigation

Solid set irrigation generally works on the principle of little and often and will often irrigate daily between rain events.

Each sprinkler is fixed in one place, this can be in the form of a sprinkler:

• Attached to a post
• Fixed to a galvanised pipe riser, (medium to big guns)

• In a container set in the ground (G-set)
• That pops out of the ground, Pop-up sprinkler

Under each sprinkler is typically a control valve that is operated by either a radio controller or is hard wired

When each sprinkler is individually controlled it allows for more variability in application rates. For example, on undulating land, it enables flexibility when considering north and south-facing aspect, top and bottom of slopes, mitigating run-off and collection, wind, and soil variability.

Control of the various sprinklers can be done in various ways:
  • Some radio controllers have a dual function of being a stand-alone timer and alternatively, they can be connected to a larger control system with a lot more visibility and variability. Once connected to a control system they can often be monitored and adjusted remotely by a smartphone or tablet.
  • A hard-wired system has the same functionality as the larger control system mentioned above.
